Softball Sweeps, Clinches Fourth Seed In CACC Tournament

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University softball team clinched the no. 4 seed in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament with a 2-1, 6-0 sweep of Nyack on Wednesday afternoon.

The Eagles finish up their regular season at 20-18 overall and 14-10 in the CACC.

In a thrilling game one, Lily Tomasiello hit a pinch-hit walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh to give the Eagles the win after a pitchers' duel between Post's Brianna Koref and Nyack's Kelly Rattigan.

Tomasiello sent the second pitch she saw over the left field wall for her first homer of the season.

Nyack struck with a run in the first and the Eagles were unable to get a run across in the bottom of the inning after having the bases loaded. However, Eagles were able to get a run across in the bottom of the third on an RBI triple from Allyson Wallauer to tie the game up.

Wallauer was 2-for-3 in game one.

Koref pitched her 15th complete game of the season. She finished with one strikeout.

In game two, it was more solid pitching as Maddison Caldwell held the Warriors to just three hits in a complete game shutout.

The Eagles used a four-run third, as Bailee Zaccaro was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded followed by a two-run single from Wallauer to give Post a 3-0 lead. The Eagled added one more on a wild pitch that scored Zaccaro.

Zaccaro and Wallauer again teamed up for the scoring in the fifth. Zaccaro tripled to right to score Caitlin DeAngelis who reached on a fielder's choice. Wallauer followed with an RBI single to give Post the 6-0 lead.

Wallauer finished 2-for-3 with three RBI. Zaccaro was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs.

Wallauer currently sits in fourth in RBI in the CACC with 36.

The Eagles will await their first-round opponent in the CACC tournament.
