Bridgeport, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team took a lead at halftime lead, but fell to the University of Bridgeport, 16-13 on Saturday evening in a non-conference game.
Morgan Cassiliano – who broke the school record in goals in a game and career goals in Post's previous game – finished with five goals to lead the Eagles.
Post conceded the first two goals of the game to Bridgeport before Cassiliano scored at the 2:57 mark of the first.
It was the beginning of six straight goals for the Eagles as they scored the first five goals of the second quarter, as Cara DiStefano, Lexi Levy, Cassiliano, Molly Dobratz and Hailey McHenry all scored to give Post the 6-2 lead.
Bridgeport scored the next three before DiStefano scored with 1:08 in the first half remaining.
After the Purple Knights (5-5) struck first in the second half, Gabrielle Fiora and McHenry put the Eagles back up 9-6, but Bridgeport tied the game with the next three goals and the teams went into the fourth knotted up at 9-9.
Cassiliano and Lotanna Nwabudu scored two of the first three goals of the fourth as the Eagles took an 11-10 lead, but Bridgeport scored the next five, including three from Andrea Basilicato as the Purple Knights took a 15-11 lead. Post rallied with two straight from Cassiliano in a 13 second span but wouldn't get closer than 15-13 the rest of the way.
Christina Badaracco had ten saves in net for Post (3-8). Gabriella Koehler had four.
Cassiliano now has 43 goals on the season, second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference .
Basilicato finished with seven goals and an assist for Bridgeport.
