Post’s Bats Come Alive In Baseball Sweep Of USciences

Philadelphia, Pa – The bats of the Post University baseball team ended game one on fire and started game two with the bats still smoking, defeating University of the Sciences, 10-6 and 16-8 on Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader.

The Eagles are 9-16 overall and 5-1 in CACC play.

In game one, a wild seventh and eighth innings gave the Eagles the four-run win.

With the Eagles leading 3-2 heading into the top of the seventh, Michael Pavelchak singled to to lead off the inning and Jimmy Brennan walked. After the runners advanced on a passed ball, Robert Olah hit his sixth home run of the season, a three-run shot to put the Eagles up 6-2.

The Devils, however, rallied in the bottom of the seventh on a one out grand slam by Evan Sinclair to tie the game at 6-6.

In the eighth, the Eagles bats continued where they left off in the seventh as Brycin Hernandez singled with one out. Shane Lindemuth followed with a walk before Pavelchak was hit by a pitch and then scored on a wild pitch to put Post back up 7-6. After a sacrifice fly from Evan Cornwell scored Lindemuth, Brennan reached on an error scoring Pavelchak, giving the Eagles a 9-6 lead. Olah followed with an RBI double for the final run for the Eagles.

Travvis Ferguson sat the Devils down in order in the bottom of the inning for his first win of the season. Starter Dan Raglievich pitched five innings, striking out nine and giving up just two earned runs and three hits.

Olah was 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run. Brennan was 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Hernandez was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

In game two, the Eagles hit three home runs in the first inning en-route to a dominating win.

Pavelchak and Cornwell led off the game with a single and walk, respectively, Brennan hit his second home run of the season to put the Eagles up 3-0.

Olah followed with his second homer of the day on a shot to centerfield. After a ground out, Jordan Glazer hit his first homer of the season, putting the Eagles up, 5-0.

The Devils scored two in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the third to cut Post's lead to 5-4, but the Eagles responded with an RBI double from Chris Corchado that scored Glazer and an RBI single from Hernandez, butting the Eagles up, 7-4.

After USciences (9-17, 3-5 CACC) again trimmed their deficit to one, the Eagles scored three more in the top of the fifth, highlighted by RBI singles from Nate Miller and Glazer.

With the Eagles leading 10-8 heading into the top of the seventh, the Eagles sent ten batters to the plate and  scored six runs. The Eagles had four RBI singles from Niller, Hernandez, Lindemuth and Pavelchak before Cornwell put the cherry on top with a two-run triple, putting the Eagles up 16-8.

Brennan finished 3-for-6 with three runs and three RBI. Glazer was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Lindemuth was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Olah was 1-for-3 with three runs and an RBI. Miller was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run.

Post finished with a season-high 21 hits.

Up next, the Eagles host Bloomfield in a doubleheader on Monday, April 4 at noon. The games are rescheduled from April 3.
