Waterbury, Conn. - Kyla Ramseur scored a career-high 32 points, lifting the Post University women's basketball team to a 74-62 win over Georgian Court in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Quarterfinals on Tuesday evening at the Drubner Center.
The Eagles are now 19-7 on the season and have made the CACC Semifinals for the second straight season when they have played. They will now play University of the Sciences at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 on the campus of Caldwell University.
Ramseur scored the first six points for the Eagles, staking them to a 6-4 lead early on. After the Lions took a brief 9-8 lead with 5:02 left in the first, the Eagles scored the next eight points as
Makayla Thompson, Jailah White and
Roxel Washington all made buckets to give the Eagles a 16-9 lead. They would end the first leading 16-13.
The Eagles led by as much as nine in the second quarter at 32-23 as five different Eagles scored, with Thompson leading the way with five. Post hit seven of its 13 shots (53.8 percent) in the quarter to take a 34-28 lead into halftime.
Post scored ten iof the first 12 points of the second half to take a 14 point lead as Ramseur and Thompson combined for eight points in the early stretch as the Eagles took a 44-30 lead at the 7:14 mark. Georgian Court rallied and trimmed the Eagles lead to 52-47 heading into the fourth.
Ramseur put the team on her back in the fourth, scoring 15 of the team's 22 points, hitting five of her seven field goal attempts. Post led by as much as 15 in the quarter after a jumper from Jaeonna Sutton made it a 64-49 game with 5:40 remaining. The Lions wouldn't get within single digits the rest of the way.
Thompson finished with 14 points as the only other Eagle in double figures. Tai Pagan finished with eight points and 12 rebounds while Sha'Raya Haines had seven points and 11 rebounds.
Post forced 13 turnovers, leading to 17 points.
