Waterbury, Conn. - Sha'Raya Haines scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, leading the Post University women's basketball team to a 66-58 win over Bloomfield on Wednesday evening at the Drubner Center in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game.
Post moves to 13-6 on the year and 7-4 in the CACC. The win also completes the season sweep of their North Division rival.
Post jumped out to a 6-0 lead on back-to-back threes from Haines and
Amaya Santiago. After the Bears rallied to take a 9-8 lead, Post scored the next seven, capped by a three from
Jailah White. Post led 15-13 after the first.
The Eagles led by as much as six again in the second quarter after another 7-0 run gave them a 25-19 lead. Bloomfield countered with an 8-2 run the rest of the way, taking a 30-27 lead into the half after a three from Caitlin Townes with eight seconds remaining.
Post turned up the offense in the third quarter, shooting 8-for-16 from the field, and going 4-for-10 from three. Down 40-36 with 5:28 remaining, the Eagles went on a 13-2 run to close out the quarter as two threes from Haines and another from
Kyla Ramseur put the Eagles in the driver's seat heading into the fourth at 49-42.
Post led by as much as 11 in the fourth as Haines shut the door on any comeback attempt, scoring ten points in the final frame. The Eagles went 8-for-11 from the free-throw line in the fourth, and making their final four with under a minute left from Ramseur and Haines to secure the win.
Santiago finished with 12 points, a while Ramseur had ten.
Post out rebounded Bloomfield, 40-34. The Eagles had 11 steals on the day, including five from
Makayla Thompson. The Eagles forced Bloomfield into 22 turnovers, scoring 25 points off those turnovers.
It was the fifth double-double of the season for Haines.
The Eagles have won their last five games against the Bears (3-18, 1-12 CACC).
