Haines Scores 1,000th Point; Women’s Basketball Falls To Dominican

Orangeburg, N.Y. - Sha'Raya Haines scored her 1,000th career point in school history, but the Post University women's basketball team fell to Dominican, 82-72 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division matchup.

Haines' monumental basket came at the 1:38 mark in the first quarter on a layup that cut the Eagles' deficit to 20-16 at the time.

Haines finished the game with a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Makayla Thompson led the team with 18 points to go along with eight rebounds and two assists.

Dominican took a 26-18 after the first as the two teams battled in a one possession game throughout the first seven minutes of the quarter. Tai Pagan scored six points in the quarter, going 3-for-3 from the field.

On three different occasions in the second quarter, the Eagles cut their deficit to five points before the Chargers took a 41-31 lead into the half. The Eagles (12-5, 6-3 CACC) hit six field goals in the quarters from six different players.

In the third, Dominican (11-10, 6-5 CACC) extended its lead to as much as 13 points, but were able to cut the deficit to eight points three different times. The last on a three from Thompson, in the final minute of the quarter to make it a 56-48 lead for the Chargers heading into the fourth.

The two teams swapped the first ten points of the fourth quarter before the Chargers were able to extend their lead to 16 points at the 4:54 mark. The Eagles would not get their deficit lower than ten points the rest of the way.

Haines is the sixth player in school history to reach 1,000 points and now has 1,012 points in her career.

Pagan finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. She shot 6-for-7 from the field. Amaya Santiago and Kiera Fernandes each had eight points.

Up next, the Eagles stay on the road as they head to Jefferson to take on the Rams at 2 p.m. on Feb. 5.
