Haines Catches Fire As Eagles Women's Basketball Takes Charge Against Dominican

Waterbury, Conn. - Sha'Raya Haines scored 23 points, including a 7-for-10 performance from three-point range as the Post University women's basketball team defeated Dominican, 78-50 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Saturday afternoon. 

The win moves the Eagles to 15-7 overall and 9-5 in the CACC and remain in first place in the CACC North Division. The win also splits the season series with the second-place Chargers (14-12, 9-7 CACC). 

Post fell behind 14-8 in the first quarter, but finished the quarter with an 11-2 run, including three threes – two from Haines – to take a 19-16 lead into the second quarter. 

The Eagles extended its lead to 36-23 after the second quarter as the defense held the Chargers to 16.7 percent (3-for-18 shooting). Tai Pagan grabbed eight of her team-high 14 rebounds in the quarter, while the Eagles shot 3-for-8 from three. 

The Eagles put the game out reach in the third quarter, going 11-for-20 shooting from the field, including 4-for-7 from three. Post led by as much as 35 points in the quarter, starting the second half on a 13-0 run. Kyla Ramseur scored 11 of her 13 points in the third, including 4-for-4 from the field. Jaeonna Sutton had seven points in the quarter. 

Post never led by less than 25 points the rest of the way.  

Post shot their best percentage from three this season at 45.2 percent (14-for-31). They also tied their second most threes of the season. 

It's the eighth game this season that Haines has scored 20 or more points in a game. 

Makayla Thompson finished with 14 points and four rebounds. Ramseur had seven assists and five rebounds. Pagan finished with nine points. 

Taylor Tomlinson led Dominican in scoring with 17 points, the lone Charger in double figures. 

Up next, the Eagles play their final regular season home game, hosting Wilmington at 6 p.m. on Feb. 21.
