Lakewood, N.J. – The Post University women's basketball team used a big fourth quarter to defeat Georgian Court, 64-60 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Saturday afternoon.
Sha'Raya Haines, in her first regular season game of the season, led the Eagles with 26 points, hitting six of her 13 three-pointers.
Kiara Eubanks scored 14, while
Jailah White had ten.
Post trailed 48-43 heading into the fourth and took a seven point lead (52-45) at the 7:56 mark before the Eagles began a rally over the next 3:30 to take the lead. Tijanae Simmons bookended a 10-2 run with three-pointers as the Eagles took their first lead of the second half to take a 55-54 lead at the 4:26 mark.
With the Eagles leading 57-56, a jumper from Taiana Pagan and a three from Haines put the Eagles up 62-56 with 2:21 left. Post allowed just three points the rest of the way, as they forced two turnovers and allowed just three points until the final horn.
The Eagles led 13-9 after the first quarter after Haines took control, hitting four of her threes, the last one coming with 31 seconds left.
After Post (8-6, 3-1 CACC) scored the first two points of the second quarter, the Lions scored the next nine, taking an 18-15 lead after a three from Savawn Hughes. The Eagles briefly took the lead back on back-to-back jumpers from
Tyree Allen and Haines.
The Lions would go on to lead by as much as nine at 31-22 after a three from Jariah Patterson with 2:10 remaining. White would score the final four points of the half for the Eagles as the Lions led 33-28 heading to the third.
The Lions (2-8, 0-4 CACC) had a 36-30 lead in the third before Post scored the next six, the final four points coming from Eubanks to tie the game at 36-36. An 11-4 run gave the Lions a 47-40 lead before a three from Haines cut the deficit before the fourth quarter.
Haines also finished with eight rebounds. Pagan had nine rebounds to lead the Eagles to go with two blocks and two steals. Eubanks had two steals and two assists to go with four rebounds.
Post forced 20 turnovers, leading to 24 points. They also turned 18 rebounds into 14 points.
There were 16 lead changes in the game.
The Eagles have won their last six games against Georgian Court.
Hughes led the Lions with 24 points. Patterson had 12.
