Orangeburg, N.Y. – The Post University women's basketball team lost a 70-55 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game to Dominican University of New York on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles are now 6-3 on the season and 1-1 in the CACC. The Chargers are 5-4 and 2-0 overall.
Saule Kaupyte had a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
Tyara McQueen led the Eagles with 13 points, while
Tyree Allen had 12.
Post fell behind 15-2 early on, but rallied to cut the deficit to seven at 21-14 at the end of the first quarter after a three pointer from
Tijanae Simmons with five seconds remaining.
After the two teams combined to shoot 7-for-32 from the field in the second quarter and score nine points apiece, the Eagles came out firing in the third quarter, taking a 36-34 lead at the 4:09 mark as McQueen and Kaupyte combined for eight points and a three from Simmons tied the game at 34-34. The Chargers finished the quarter on a 10-4 run, with four points coming from Cayla Howard as they took a 44-40 lead.
Post got within one at 46-45 after two free throws from
Jamie Waldron, but eight straight points from the Chargers pushed their lead back to nine. A three-pointer from Kaupyte made it a 54-48 game with 5:08 left, but a 16-7 run from the Chargers closed out the game as Tanasha Mills scored seven of her team-high 15 points in the quarter for Dominican.
Post finished ahead in the rebound edge, 53-35 and had 25 second chance points thanks to 24 of those rebounds being on the offensive side.
The two teams have now split the last ten matchups against each other.
Krosten Teklits had 12 points for Dominican, Alexis Suarez scored 11.
