Women’s Basketball Leads At Halftime, But Get First Loss Against Le Moyne

Syracuse, N.Y.  – The Post University women's basketball team held a halftime lead, but lost a non-conference game to Le Moyne, 60-47 on Sunday afternoon.

Tijanae Simmons led the Eagles with 16 points, going 5-for-13 from three.

The Eagles took an 18-12 lead after the first quarter, after scoring the final six points over the last 3:04, capped by a buzzer beater from Roxkel Washington. Simmons and Tyree Allen both hit three-pointers in the quarter. The Eagles held the Dolphins to 29.41 percent shooting on 5-for-17 shooting.

Post (1-1) extended its lead to 21-12 at the beginning of the second quarter after a three from Tyara McQueen 33 seconds in. The Dolphins followed on with an 8-0 run – six of those points on free throws – before a three from Simmons stopped the run. Post went back up by seven again after a jumper from McQueen and a three from Lauren Murphy put the Eagles up 29-22.  Sydney Lusher of Le Moyne (2-0) scored the final five points of the quarter as Post went up 29-27 going into the half.

Le Moyne went on a 14-3 run to start the third, but the Eagles responded with the next nine points, including two threes from Simmons to tie the game at 41-41 with 1:09 left. After making a free throw with under a minute left, Le Moyne went into the fourth leading 42-41.

Post briefly took the lead back in the fourth as Simmons opened the quarter with a three to make it a 44-42 game, but the Dolphins went on a 13-0 run to take a 55-44 lead with 5:15 left and didn't allow another field goal by the Eagles the rest of the way.

McQueen finished with nine points and six rebounds and three assists. Washington finished with seven points and four rebounds. Allen had four points, four assists and six rebounds.

Haedyn Roberts led the Dolphins with 17 points. Lusher had 12 points and seven assists.

Post had the edge in rebounding, 40-39 and the edge in bench points, 20-5.

Up next, the Eagles stay on the road to take on Queens in a non-conference game on Nov. 17 at 6 p.m.
