Washington's Double-Double, Waldron's Layup Give Women's Basketball Win over Queens

Flushing, N.Y. - A layup from Jamie Waldron with six seconds left gave the Post University women's basketball team a thrilling 61-60 win over Queens College on Thursday evening.

In the final possession of the game for the Eagles, a jumper missed by Kiara Eubanks was knocked out of bounds by Queens. After a timeout by the Eagles with seven seconds left, McQueen inbounded the ball under the hoop to an open Waldron who had an open layup to give the Eagles the 61-60 lead.

Queens called a timeout, and on their final possession, Farra Pitt missed a layup in the lane, giving the Eagles their second win of the season.

Post entered the final quarter leading 50-41 after leading by as much as 20 in the third quarter. The Knights trimmed the lead to six points on a layup from Chelsea Reeves to cut Post's lead to 52-46 before Jayden Burns hit a three to put the Eagles up 55-46. 

Queens then went on a 14-4 run, with eight points coming from Jennah Degout to take their first lead of the half before Waldron's heroics.

Post led 17-15 after the first quarter behind two three-pointers by Lauren Murphy and five points from Tijanae Simmons. 

After a brief one point lead for the Knights in the second quarter, the Eagles went on an 18-5 run, with Waldron scoring five on the run. Post led by as much as 12 points in the half and took a 37-27 lead into the third.

A 12-2 run for the Eagles gave them their biggest lead of the game at 49-29 with 3:38 remaining as Roxkel Washington scored four of her team-high 14 points. The Knights finished on a 12-1 run to cut the Post lead to 50-41 into the fourth.

Washington finished with 14 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks for the Eagles. Simmons finished with 12 points and Waldron had nine. Lauren Murphy had eight points and three rebounds.

Post had 16 second chance points to nine from Queens. The Eagles also had 30 bench points, led by Washington.

Chelsea Reeves led the Knights with 14 points. DeGout had 11.
