Waterbury, CT – The Post University women's soccer team lost its quarterfinal matchup of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament, 3-2 to Chestnut Hill at LaMoy Field on Monday afternoon.
The loss concludes the season for the Eagles, who finished 9-9-1 overall.
The third-seeded Eagles got on the board in just the second minute as
Kaeleigh Serianni scored her second goal of the season as a throw in from
Hailey McGee reached the box and bounced around to Serianni who put the ball in to make it a 1-0 Post lead.
The Griffins – seeded sixth - scored in the 13
th minute to tie the game as Madeline Jimenez took a shot from just outside the box on the right side into the left corner of the net to tie the game. Chestnut Hill then took its first lead of the game in the 27
th minute, as a shot from Lizzie Stokes went off the crossbar to Olivia Medeiros who tapped it in to make it a 2-1 game.
Post responded shortly before halftime, as
Hailey McGee made a penalty shot after a handball by Chestnut Hill inside the box in the 42
nd minute. It was her 13
th of the season, the most by an Eagle since
Renel Dennis scored 17 in 2014
Both teams remained tied going into the half and for the majority of the second half until Chestnut Hill's Elizabeth Deal scored off a corner from Virginia Perry in the 81
st minute.
The Eagles outshot the Griffins on goal, 13-5, with
Hailey McGee leading the way with six.
Imelda Lazaro finished the day with two saves.
Kaitlyn Carter of Chestnut Hill (9-5-4) finished with 11 saves. The Griffins move on to play Caldwell, the seventh seed, on Friday, November 4.
The Eagles finish the season with the most wins since the 2015 season as well as their best finish in the conference since that same year.
