Women’s Basketball Leads Early, But Falls To Chestnut Hill

Philadelphia, Pa. – In a battle between the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) division leaders, the Post University women's basketball team lost a tightly contested 55-50 game to Chestnut Hill on Saturday afternoon.
The loss puts the Eagles at 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the CACC.

Sha'Raya Haines led the way for the Eagles with 11 points, including 3-for-6 shooting from three.

In the close first quarter, the Eagles took a 15-14 lead as the teams shot 60 percent from the field (6-for-10). Tai Pagan led the Eagles with four points after the first ten minutes and Haines hit her first three of the day.

Post extended their lead to 34-25 at halftime, finishing the final 3:49 of the second quarter on an 11-3 run. During the run Roxkel Washington scored six straight points om three consecutive possessions as well as a three from Haines to give the Eagles their biggest lead of the game at 34-24 with 1:20 remaining in the half.

The Griffins (14-3, 8-0 CACC) rallied in the third and tied the game at 38 with 1:47 remaining, before the Eagles scored the final three points in the quarter on free throws from Jaeonna Sutton and Kyla Ramseur. Bri Hewlett scored six of her 11 points in the quarter for Chestnut Hill.

In the fourth, the Griffins scored the first seven points of the third to take a 45-41 lead before the Eagles tied the game back up on a basket from Washington and two free throws from Ramseur to make it 45-45 at the 4:57 mark. Chestnut Hill went back up by six with 29 seconds left at 53-47, but the Eagles were able to hit a free throw on their next possession and force the Griffins into a turnover, and scoring two more at the free throw line to make it a 53-50 Griffins lead with 14 seconds remaining.

Makayla Thompson stole the ball on the ensuing possession, but the Eagles were unable to convert on a game-tying three-point attempt.

Ramseur finished with nine points and three rebounds. Washington had eight points and four rebounds. Thompson had seven points, three assists and two steals.

Emily Chimel led all players with 23 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three blocks for the Griffins.

Up next, the Eagles host Georgian Court at 1 p.m. on January 29 at the Drubner Center.
