Staten Island, N.Y. – The Post University softball team's scored early and often in both games of a doubleheader en route to a 11-9, 12-4 sweep of Nyack in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup on Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles extended their winning streak to four games and are now 6-2 on the season and currently sit in third place in the CACC.
In game one, the Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Bailee Zaccaro hit her first home run of the season, a two-run shot that also scored Samantha Riccardulli who led off the game with a single.
Nyack tied the game in the bottom of the inning, before an Allyson Wallauer single score Zaccaro and Caitlin DeAngelis to ultimately give the Eagles the lead for good.
Post broke the game open in the fourth and fifth innings, highlighted by the third home run of the season by DeAngelis, who hit a two run shot that scored Alexa Pacy in the fourth.
In the fifth, the Eagles scored three more runs, including an RBI double by Kasey Jusino, and an RBI single by Pacy to give Post a commanding 10-4 lead.
Nyack closed the gap, scoring three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth, but left two runners stranded on base in the sixth.
Zaccaro finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Wallauer drove in two runs of her own. DeAngelis went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Jusino and Pacy also drove in two runs.
Bridget Betley earned the win and is 2-1 on the season. Maddison Caldwell earned her second straight save for the Eagles.
Jessa Johnson, Arielys Rodriguez and Tia Celano each drove in three runs for the Warriors.
Game two started similarly to game one, with the Eagles scoring two runs to begin the game as Lily Tomasiello drove Demi Rivera and DeAngelis – who both singled – to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
After Nyack answered back with one run in the bottom of the inning, the Eagles opened the floodgates the rest of the way.
Demi Rivera hit a two-run home run to cap a three-run second inning, her second homer of the year, to put the Eagles up 5-1. Jenny Riquelme helped her own cause on the mound by hitting an RBI double in the third, scoring Zaccaro who singled to open the inning. Cassidy Petrie added an RBI groundout and Jazmin Andrews drove in her first run of the season with an RBI single for Post's second straight three-run inning.
The Eagles tacked on more insurance in the fourth on another RBI single from Tomasiello, an RBI fly out for Rianne Mayer and an RBI single from Annabelle Hamilton.
Tomasiello finished the game 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Riquelme, who added another RBI in the fifth finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. She also pitched a five inning complete game for her second win of the season. Zaccaro went 1-for-3 and now has a 21 game hitting streak, dating back to the 2019 season.
Post now holds a 27-5 all-time series lead against the Warriors.
The Eagles will go on the road Saturday to take on the University of the Sciences at noon in a CACC doubleheader.
