Post Baseball Drops Two To Bloomfield; Lindemuth Hits Grand Slam

Newark, N.J.Shane Lindemuth hit a grand slam in game one, but the Post University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Bloomfield, 9-6 and 8-5 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference clash.

Lindemuth's grand slam – his first homer of his collegiate career - came in the top of the fifth with the Eagles trailing 3-2 at the time. Evan Wilkinson began the inning with a single and advanced on a wild pitch. Zac Ruth followed with a single. After a fielder's choice, Brycin Hernandez hit a single to load the bases to set the stage for Lindemuth who took a Raymon Sarza pitch over the left field wall at Westside Park to give the Eagles the 6-3 lead.

The Eagles held the lead until the bottom of the seventh before Bloomfield answered with four runs of their own to take the lead, highlighted by a bases clearing double from Kendon Strachan. The Bears would add two more runs of insurance in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run homer.

The Eagles scored their first two runs of the game in the top of the third on a wild pitch that scored Wilkinson and a sacrifice fly from Devon Ogston.

Lindemuth finished game one, 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run. Hernandez and Ruth both finished with two hits in the game.

Starting pitcher Chas Cywin pitched six innings, giving up just two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven.

In game two, the Eagles took a lead late, in the top of the sixth inning. With the game tied at 3-3, Harry Allegra hit a two run homer that scored Hernandez, who reached on an error to give the Eagles a 5-3 lead at the time. It was Allegra's second homer of the season, both of which have come against Bloomfield.

However, the Bears answered with a five-run bottom of the sixth, taking the lead on a two-run single by Gary Puente. The Eagles would go down in order in the top of the seventh.

Earlier in the game, Post jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring two runs in the first inning on an RBI single from Rian Balbino to score Ogston and a bases loaded walk from Ruth that scored Andrew Roman.

Bloomfield answered with three runs in the bottom of the second, tying the game on a two-run homer by Julius Puryear.

Roman went 2-for-4 with a run for the Eagles. Ogston scored two runs. Allegra went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run.

The Eagles go right back into action on Wednesday as they play Dominican on the road at 3 p.m.
