Big Third Quarter Lifts Women's Basketball To Fifth Straight Win

Jersey City, N.J.– The Post University women's basketball team won its fifth straight game, defeating Nyack in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener behind a big third quarter, 65-56 on Saturday evening.

The win moves the Eagles to 6-1 and 1-0 in the CACC.

Down 31-30 heading into the third, the Eagles jumped out to a 9-2 run to take a 39-33 lead as Tyree Allen scored all five of her points during the run.

After the Warriors cut the game to 42-38, the Eagles rattled off the next eight points as Sha'Raya Haines and Kyla Ramseur each hit a three, giving the Eagles their biggest lead at the time, 50-38. They'd go into the final quarter leading 53-41.

Post extended its lead to as much as 14 in the fourth quarter and never led by less than seven points the rest of the way. Ramseur scored six of her game-high 22 points in the fourth, hitting all six of her free-throw attempts.

Post took an 18-15 lead after the first quarter behind nine points from Jaeonna Sutton who hit two of her three three-pointers in the quarter, including one with seven seconds left to give the Eagles the lead before the buzzer. Makayla Thompson chipped in with six points during the quarter.

Ramseur scored nine points in the second quarter on 3-for-5 shooting from three, including one that gave the Eagles a 30-27 lead before the Warriors scored the final four points to take the one-point lead going into the half.

It was the third straight game Ramseur has scored 20 or more points, all off the bench. The Eagles bench again was dominant, outscoring Nyack's bench, 47-21.

The Eagles forced 23 turnovers, with six of them coming on steals from Thompson. The Eagles converted those turnovers to 34 points.

Sutton finished with 12 points. Tai Pagan grabbed ten rebounds to go with six points. Haines had a game-high six assists.

Amani Levitan led Nyack with 20 points.

Up next, the Eagles travel to Bloomfield for a CACC road game at 5:30 p.m. on December 7.
