Sparkill, N.Y. – Kyla Ramseur scored 22 points off the bench, leading the Post University women's basketball team to its fourth straight win, a 63-56 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College in a non-conference game on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Eagles move to 5-1 on the season.
After falling behind 8-1 early in the first, the Eagles rallied to take its first lead at 12-10 with 2:07 remaining in the first quarter as part of a 13-3 run to close out the half. Ramseur, Jaeonna Sutton and Makayla Thompson all hit a three during the run.
Post extended its lead to 27-17 at the break as its defense held the Spartans to just 2-for-19 shooting from the field while Ramseur and Sutton put up five points apiece.
The Eagles took its biggest lead of the game in the third quarter, going up 33-21, but the Spartans rallied to cut the deficit to 37-32 heading into the final frame.
With Eagles up 45-42 with 5:47 in the fourth, they went on a 6-0 run capped by a three-pointer by Amaya Santiago to give them some breathing room at 51-42. They would go on to lead by as much as ten points and the Spartans were unable to get closer than six points the rest of the way. Ramseur scored 14 of her points in the quarter on 4-for-5 shooting and going 6-8 from the free throw line.
The Eagles forced 20 turnovers on the day, leading to 17 points. Six of the turnovers they caused was due to Sutton, who had six steals on the day. She also had 12 points. Tai Pagan added ten points and seven rebounds.
It was the second straight game Ramseur scored over 20 points. She had 25 in a win over the College of Staten Island on Nov. 28.
The Eagles bench for the second straight game dominated their opponent's bench, outscoring them 40-17.
