Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University women's basketball team used a big third quarter to rally and defeat the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, 84-77 on Tuesday evening at the Drubner Center.
The Eagles outscored the Purple Knights, 25-7 in the third after being down 43-30 at halftime.
During the third quarter rally,
Sha'Raya Haines scored 12 points, hitting two three-pointers to go along with eight rebounds.
Jaeonna Sutton hit two three-pointers in the frame as well for eight of her 13 points.
The Eagles held their first three of the game at the 3:22 mark of the third on a three-pointer by Sutton. They would lead by as much as six points in the third before taking a 55-50 lead heading into the fourth.
The Knights rallied to tie the game at 57-57 with 7:14 left in the fourth, but the Eagles were able to take the lead for good after a free throw from
Kyla Ramseur and a layup from
Amaya Santiago to give Post a 60-57 lead.Â
The teams remained tight throughout the quarter before a layup from Haines and four free throws from Ramseur put the game away.
In the first quarter, the Purple Knights hit six of their ten threes to take a 22-18 lead. Bridgeport would extend their lead by as much as 16 points at 43-27 with 1:20 remaining before the Eagles started their rally in the second half.
Haines finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds, leading five Eagles in double figures.
Julianna Kascic had her first career double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Santiago finished with 13 points.
The Eagles bench dominated Bridgeport's, outscoring them 32-1 as Sutton finished with 13 points andÂ
Makayla Thompson had 14 points.
Post outrebounded Bridgeport, 52-37.
Samirah Henderson had 31 points to lead Bridgeport. Stephanie McBride had 18 points and 14 rebounds.
