Waterbury, Conn. – A layup from Tai Pagan just before the final buzzer lifted the Post University women's basketball team to a 67-65 win over Queens College in a non-conference game at the Drubner Center on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Eagles move to 2-1 on the season.
With just two seconds left in the fourth quarter, Pagan took an inbounds pass from Makayla Thompson under the hoop, absorbed contact, made the layup and gave the Eagles the two-point lead. After a timeout from the Knights, Pagan stole the inbounds pass to seal the win.
The Eagles took their biggest lead of the game at 21-13 in the first quarter after a three from Amaya Santiago and led by four after the first ten minutes.
The Eagles would go into the half up 41-40, thanks to Sha'Raya Haines, who scored eight of her 15 points in the frame.
After a tight third quarter, which saw the Eagles extend its lead to 52-50, the Knights started the fourth with a 10-4 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 60-56 with 4:50 remaining.
The Eagles would rally to take a three-point lead after a 7-0 run on a three from Haines and layups from Pagan and Kiera Fernandes. A three from Queens' Khadija Demry tied the game at 65-65 before Pagan's heroics.
Pagan finished with 13 points. Santiago had 11 and Fernandes had ten. The Eagles had a slight 46-45 rebounding edge with Haines and Julianna Kascic leading the way with eight.
