Post Women’s Basketball Uses 19-0 Run To Take Down Adelphi In Season Opener

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University women's basketball team used a 19-0 second half run to defeat the Adelphi University Panthers, 57-46 in their season opener on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center.

Down 40-29 with 2:21 left in the third quarter, the Eagles would hit their next six field goals between the third and fourth quarters.

A free throw from Kyla Ramseur started the run at 1:57 in the third. Then Makayla Thompson and Sha'Raya Haines hit back to back three-pointers followed by a transition layup from Julianna Kascic and a steal and layup from Ramseur with seven seconds left in the third to tie the game heading into the fourth quarter at 40-40.

The Eagles didn't slow down in the second quarter as Jasmine Gee started the quarter with a jumper followed by two more threes from Haines and Thompson to close out the run and give the Eagles a 48-40 lead. They would never relinquish the lead the rest of the way. The Eagles allowed just six points in the final quarter.

Post fell behind 13-6 after the first quarter, but were able to rally to take a 23-22 lead at the half, behind Haines, who scored 11 of her game-high 23 points in the frame, including three three-pointers. Post took its first lead of the game at 21-18 on a three-pointer by Haines with 4:43 in the second quarter.

Adelphi went on a 14-0 run in the third quarter before the Eagles went on their game-changing run.

The Eagles bench outscored the Panthers, 28-9 as Thompson finished with 12 points and Kascic with ten. Gee led the Eagles with seven rebounds.

Post was scrappy on the defensive end with five blocks and 11 steals.

Up next, the Eagles will host Franklin Pierce on Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Drubner Center in a non-conference game.
