Men’s Basketball Takes Control Early, Takes Down Concordia In Final Regular Season Game On Senior Day

Waterbury, Conn.- The Post University men's basketball team jumped out to a 23-point lead to start the game and never looked back in a 101-79 win over Concordia in its final regular season Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game of the season Saturday afternoon.

The win puts finishes the Eagles regular season at 19-9 overall and 13-6 in the CACC. Their 19 wins are the second most in school history.

Post jumped out to a 29-6 lead in the first 7:43 of the game as sophomore Devonte McCall scored 15 points during the opening run and senior Savion Boissard, and sophomore D.J. Frechette each hit threes to open up the game.

The Clippers trimmed at the lead and cut the deficit to 42-29 after a three from Brandon Fields, but a layup from senior Marcus Johnson sparked a 10-4 run to close out the half. Sophomore Isaiah Holmes went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line during the run, while Johnson scored four points. The Eagles led 52-33 at the half.

Concordia cut the Eagles lead to 69-58 in the second half after a layup from Jesse Breeding, but the Eagles would score seven straight, including five points from McCall to go back up 76-58. The Eagles would never lead by less than 12 points the rest of the way.

McCall finished with 24 points and eight rebounds. Johnson finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Boissard and classmate D.J. Jarrett each scored 16. Jarrett hit four threes on the day. Frechette scored ten.

The Eagles were relentless on the board, outrebounding Concordia 59-26. The Eagles had 25 offensive rebounds, leading to 40 second chance points.

Prior to the game, Jarrett, Johnson and Boissard were honored as part of Senior Day, as they played in their last regular season home game.

Dion Herrington scored 18 points to lead Concordia.

 

Up next, the Eagles, ranked second in the North Division, will host Wilmington, who ranks third in the South Division in the first round of the CACC tournament on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Drubner Center.
