Williams Has Double-Double, But Women’s Basketball Drops First Home Game To Jefferson

Waterbury, Conn. – In a back-and-forth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game, the Post University women's basketball team lost a 69-65 game to Jefferson on Saturday afternoon in the Drubner Center.

Junior Taylor Williams had a double-double – her sixth of the season – with 20 points and ten rebounds.

It was the first home loss of the season for the Eagles who are now 16-5 overall and 11-3 in the CACC. They are now 9-1 at home. The Eagles remain in first-place in the North Division.

Jefferson took a 54-53 lead heading into the fourth quarter, and the Eagles scored the first six points of the quarter, including a three from sophomore Katelyn Andres to put Post up 59-54 at the 6:55 mark.

The Rams followed the next ten points, including two threes from Alynna Williams to go up, 64-59 with 4:26 remaining. A three from sophomore Sha'Raya Haines and three points from Williams sandwiched in between a basket from the Rams made it a 66-65 Jefferson lead with 30 seconds left.

After two free throws by Alynna Williams put the Rams up 68-65, the Eagles had an opportunity to tie, but a three-pointer wouldn't fall and the Rams iced the game with a free throw.

Post took a 19-17 lead after the first quarter as Taylor Williams hit a jumper at the buzzer as the ball was inbounded with a second remaining. Three players scored five points in the quarter, including Williams, freshman Tai Pagan and sophomore Katelyn Canlas.

Jefferson (11-11, 7-6 CACC) took a 37-32 lead at the half after scoring seven of the final nine points of the second quarter. Haines and junior Hannah Benac each hit a three in the quarter.

The Rams extended their lead to 54-46 at the 2:05 mark in the third after a free-throw from Sabria Lytes, but the Eagles scored the final seven points of the quarter, including a three from Taylor Williams to make it a one-point game heading into the fourth.

Pagan finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. Haines had 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Alynna Williams led all scorers with 29 points. Lytes scored 16.

The Eagles once again dominated the rebound department, 45-34 and their 18 offensive rebounds led to 22 second-chance points.

The Eagles will play at Dominican on Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m. as the top two teams in the CACC North clash.
