Women’s Basketball Holds Off Rally From Dominican In Big CACC Match

Orangeburg, N.Y. – Junior Taylor Williams had 21 points and sophomore Sha'Raya Haines hit a late three as the Post University women's basketball team defeated Dominican, 59-53 in a game featuring the two top teams in the North Division of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).

The win puts the Eagles at 17-5 overall and 12-3 in the CACC, extending their lead in the North Division to 2.5 games over Dominican.
Post led 47-40 heading into the fourth quarter and extended it to nine points at 51-42 after a layup from Williams with 8:28 remaining.

The Chargers followed with an 8-0 run of their own, with six of the points coming from Taylor Tomlinson, making it a 51-50 Post lead with 4:59 remaining.

Williams stopped the run with a three on the ensuing possession to put the Eagles back up 54-50.

Both teams would go cold from the field over the next three and a half minutes. However, with under a minute remaining and the shot clock winding down for the Eagles, Haines banked in a three-pointer as the shot-clock buzzer sounded to give Post a 57-50 lead with 41 seconds left, and held off the Chargers, the rest of the way.

Haines and Williams combined to score all 12 points in the fourth for the Eagles.

The Eagles jumped out to a 9-4 lead behind six points from freshman Tai Pagan to begin the game. Dominican rallied with an 11-2 run to take a 15-11 lead with 1:25 remaining, but a three from Williams with a second left in the quarter gave Post the 16-15 lead.

In the second, Haines, the top three-point shooter in the CACC hit two of her three three-pointers, all in the final 5:29 as part of a 12-3 run for the Eagles who led 36-26 at halftime.

The Eagles led by as much as 15 points at 45-30 at the 3:07 mark, but a 10-2 run from Dominican (11-12, 9-5 CACC) closed the game to 47-40 heading into the fourth.

Haines finished with 16 points and four rebounds. Pagan had 14 points and 13 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.
Tomlinson finished with 16 points, as did teammate Khay'la Latimer for Dominican.

The Eagles will play at Georgian Court on February 15 at 1 p.m.
