Waterbury, Conn.- The Post University women's basketball team used a big fourth quarter to catapult themselves to a 71-62 win over Concordia in its final regular season Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game of the season on Saturday afternoon.
Juniors Taylor Williams and Angelica Flores hit big-time threes down the stretch to lead the Eagles to the win.
Post trailed 53-46 heading into the fourth quarter, and would fall behind as much as eight points at 61-53 at the 5:52 mark after a three-pointer by Concordia's Shanice Graves made it a 61-53 Clippers lead.
From there, the Eagles rally began as sophomore Sha'Raya Haines made a layup and free throw followed by a three from Williams to cut the Eagles deficit to 61-59 at the 4:13 mark. Haines would tie the game with a layup at the 3:14 mark to make it 61-61
After a free throw by the Clippers to take a one-point lead, freshman Tai Pagan blocked a shot by Concordia's Christina Brown which led to a big time transition three from Flores to give the Eagles their first lead of the half at the 2:04 mark. The Clippers turned it over on the next possession and Williams made them pay, hitting another three-pointer to give the Eagles a 67-62 lead with 1:26 left. Post hit three of its final four free throws to seal the game.
The Eagles led 16-11 after the first behind seven points from Williams. However, the Clippers would hit three three-pointers in the second to take a 33-27 lead at the break.
Haines set the tone in the third for the Eagles and didn't let the Clippers run away with the game, hitting three of her four three-pointers, scoring 13 points.
Haines finished with 21 points and seven rebounds. Williams had 18 points and nine rebounds. Pagan had eight points, ten rebounds and seven blocks for the Eagles. Flores had nine points, including 3-for-5 from three.
Prior to the game, three seniors – Taylor Ceballos, Kiana Nichols and Mia Crooms – were honored as part of Senior Day.
Brown led Concordia with 13 points.
Up next, the Eagles will host their first ever CACC home playoff game, taking on the No. 4 seed in the South Division, Chestnut Hill, at 5:30 p.m. at the Drubner Center.
