Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University women's basketball team scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back as they took down Felician, 91-44 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Tuesday evening at the Drubner Center.
The Eagles, who wrapped up the North Division title on Saturday, hit two threes early on as juniors
Angelica Flores and
Taylor Williams helped stake the Eagles to an 8-0 lead. The Eagles extended their winning streak to three games, as they sit at 19-5 overall and 14-3 in the CACC.
From there, the Eagles would continue to extend the lead, taking a 19-8 lead at the end of the first quarter as Williams scored seven points and Flores scored five. Flores scored a team-high 22 points.
The staunch Eagles defense held Felician to eight points again in the second quarter, opening their lead to 49-16 at the break. Post finished with a 22-2 run over the final 7:23 of the quarter, as it held Felician to 23.1 percent shooting in the quarter. Sophomore
Katelyn Andres scored eight of her 20 points in the quarter, going 2-for-2 from three in the period.
The third period saw the two teams go scoreless for the first 2:31 of the quarter, until the Eagles went on an 8-2 run to take a 57-18 lead after a three from junior
Hannah Benac. Post took a 72-29 lead heading into the fourth as Flores scored seven more points and Andres hit two more threes for the Eagles.
Felician wouldn't get any closer the rest of the way, as the Eagles closed out the game in the fourth quarter.
The defense by the Eagles held Felician to 29.3 (17-for-58) shooting in the game.
Andres hit five of her seven three-point attempts on the day. Freshman
Tai Pagan had seven points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore
Katelyn Canlas scored a season-high 11 points, going 3-for-5 from three-point land.
It is the 14
th double-digit win for the Eagles this season.
The Eagles will take on Nyack in a CACC North game on February 22 at 1 p.m.
