Williams Hits Buzzer Beater To Give Eagles Thrilling Win In OT Over Wilmington

Newark, De. – In what may have been the most thrilling Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game of the season, junior Taylor Williams hit a shot at the buzzer to give the Post University women's basketball team an 89-87 win over Wilmington on Saturday afternoon.

Williams took an inbounds pass on the elbow with three seconds left, turned around in traffic and hit the game winner as the buzzer sounded to give the Eagles their fourth straight win, strengthening their lead in the CACC North Division.

Williams finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Eagles, and sophomore Sha'Raya Haines had 25 points and 11 rebounds.

The Wildcats opened up with a 9-4 run to begin the overtime period, capped by a three from Jadyn Whitsitt to give them an 85-80 lead. After two free-throws by Haines, and a missed jumper by Whitsitt, sophomore Katelyn Andres grabbed an offensive rebound off a three-point miss by Haines, fed the ball back to Haines, who redeemed herself with a three to tie the game at 85-85 with 1:24 left.

Post (15-4, 10-2 CACC) took an 87-85 lead with two free-throws by Haines before Lashrya Williams tied the game for the Wildcats at 87-87 before the late game heroics by Williams.

The two teams went into the fourth quarter tied at 57 before Lashrya Williams hit a three to give the Wildcats the 60-57 lead before Haines immediately answered with a three of her own to tie the game.  Wilmington went back up by two on the next possession. The Eagles responded with the next nine points, as Williams hit a three as well as buckets from Haines, freshman Tai Pagan and Katelyn Canlas to give Post the 69-62 lead.

Wilmington fought back and tied the game at 76-76 with 12 seconds left on two free throws by Kiara Eubanks. The Eagles had an opportunity to win but a missed three and two free throws sent the game to overtime. The Eagles led by as much as eight points in the first quarter, as they took a 16-8 lead on a jumper from Williams who scored four points in the quarter. Andres hit two threes in the first. Post led 18-15 after the first.

The second quarter was as tight as it could be as the Eagles never trailed, but never led by more than three points as Williams scored seven and Pagan scored six for the Eagles who took a slim 35-33 lead into the half.

Post opened up to a nine-point lead at the 6:06 mark in the third quarter after Williams and Haines combined for eight straight points to give them a 46-37 lead. With the Eagles up 57-50, Wilmington (3-17, 3-9 CACC) rallied scoring the final seven points as Kasha Andrews hit a three with 16 seconds left to tie the game going into the fourth.
