Women’s Basketball Puts On Defensive Clinic In CACC Win Over Nyack

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University women's basketball team blocked ten shots, grabbed 72 rebounds and held the Nyack Warriors to 20.3 percent shooting in a dominating defensive display during an 86-35 win in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game.

The Eagles had four players score in double figures, with sophomore Katelyn Andres leading the way with 17 points. Junior Taylor Williams finished with her second double-double of the season, scoring 14 points, grabbing 14 rebounds to go along with five blocks.

With the Eagles leading 18-11 going into the second, they stepped on the gas in the second, outscoring Nyack, 27-9. Freshman Kiera Fernandes scored eight points in the period including sinking all four of her free throws. The Eagles scored the first 12 points of the quarter and didn't give up a point until the 5:13 mark and they held the Warriors to just two made field goals. The Eagles lead 45-20 at the half.

The story was the same in the third, as the Eagles gave up just seven points in the quarter. Freshman Tai Pagan had four points, six rebounds and four blocks in the quarter for the Eagles, while Andres scored eight in the period. Williams had seven points and six rebounds in the third and the Eagles took a 72-27 lead into the final period. Nyack wouldn't get closer than 44 points the rest of the way.

Fernandes finished with 15 points. Pagan had nine points, 11 rebounds and five blocks and sophomore Sha'Raya Haines had 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Eagles grabbed 25 offensive rebounds, turning them into 32 second chance points. They also scored 22 points off of turnovers while never trailing in the game.

Post now sits in first place alone at 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the CACC.

Jocelin Wright led all Nyack players with seven points.

Up next, the Eagles play Goldey-Beacom at home on January 11 at 1 p.m. in a CACC match.
