Eagles Hit 13 Threes As Women’s Basketball Dominates Goldey-Beacom

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University women's basketball team hit 13 three-pointers en route to another dominating Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win, topping Goldey-Beacom, 101-63 on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center.

Post now sits at 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the CACC, putting the Eagles in first place in the CACC North Division.

Junior Taylor Williams led the way for the Eagles with her third double-double of the season, and her second straight double-double pouring in 23 points to go along with ten rebounds. Williams shot 5-for-7 from three-point range.

Post took control early in the game in the first quarter, hitting six of their eight three-point attempts. After giving up the first basket of the game, the Eagles scored the next 12, including two-three pointers by sophomore Sha'Raya Haines to make it a 12-2 game. The Lightning would score the next seven points, but the Eagles closed out on a 16-5 run and took a 28-14 lead. Haines hit three three-pointers in the quarter.

The second quarter saw more hot shooting by the Eagles, as they hit 11 of their 18 field goals (61.1) and three of their four three-point attempts. Williams scored ten of her points in the quarter as Post extended its lead to 59-34 at halftime. Sophomore Katelyn Andres had eight points in the quarter.

Post was 4-for-10 from three in the second half, with freshman Kiera Fernandes hitting three of them. Goldey-Beacom never got closer than 25 points the rest of the way and the Eagles led by as much as 39 in the second half.

Fernandes finished with a career-high 21 points and hit four of eight threes. Haines had 18 points, going 4-for-5 from three. Andres had 14 points and eight rebounds and freshman Tai Pagan had nine points and 11 rebounds.

The 101 points scored by the Eagles were the most points they have scored in a game since February 25, 2014 when the Eagles scored 107 in a win over Mercy.

Post turned 17 Goldey-Beacom turnovers into 29 points and the bench outscored the Lightning, 32-15.

Up next, the Eagles play Felician on the road on January 15 at 5:30 p.m. in a CACC match.
