Haines Has Double-Double As Women’s Basketball Uses Big Third Quarter To Top Felician

Rutherford, N.J. – Sophomore Sha'Raya Haines came close to notching a triple-double with 23 points, ten rebounds and seven assists, as the Post University women's basketball team used a big third quarter to beat Felician, 91-60 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Wednesday evening.

The win was the third straight for the Eagles, and also the third straight game they have won by 30 points or more, a school record. They sit atop the CACC North Division standings at 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the conference.

With Post holding a slim 41-34 lead heading into the third, the Eagles busted open the floodgates, going on a 17-3 run over the first four minutes to take a 58-37 lead. Senior Taylor Ceballos, in her second game back, scored six points in the run, while freshman Tai Pagan had four points. Felician would only get as close as 17 points the rest of the quarter as three pointers by freshman Kiera Fernandes and one at the buzzer from junior Hannah Benac gave Post the 71-46 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Post would extend its lead to 34 points (88-54) and Felician (2-12, 1-6 CACC) would not threaten the Eagles the rest of the way as freshman Jimmirah Johnson went 3-for-4 from the field in the quarter for six points.

Junior Taylor Williams set the pace for the Eagles in the first quarter, scoring 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting, including 3-for-3 from three-point range. The Eagles led by as much as nine points in the quarter at 18-9 after going on a 9-2 run midway through.  Felician cut its deficit to 20-16 before a three from Williams bumped the Eagles lead back up to 23-16. Post would lead 26-20 after the first quarter.

Post jumped out to a 10-2 run to begin the second quarter to take a 36-22 lead at the 6:11 mark as Williams and Haines combined for all ten points in the run. The Golden Falcons finished with a 12-5 run of their own as the Eagles would lead 41-34 at the half.

Williams, the CACC's leading scorer and reigning CACC Defensive Player of the Week, finished with 17 points and five rebounds. Benac had ten points, as did sophomore Katelyn Andres. Pagan finished with eight points and eight rebounds.

The Eagles are averaging 78.3 points per game, which is more than 11 points more than the next team, Jefferson.

Up next, the Eagles play USciences on the road at 1 p.m. on January 18.
