Roman And Goodman Shine In Losses To Mercy and FPU

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – Freshman Kim Buttery had 30 assists and classmate Jayda Roman had 12 kills, but the Post University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 16-25, 16-25) match to Mercy on Monday morning.

After dropping the first set, the Eagles settled in during the second set. With the set tied 9-9, Post rattled off four straight points to take its largest lead of the set, as Mercy committed three attack errors to go along with a kill by Aniya Goodman. Mercy responded with five straight points to take a 14-13 lead, but the Eagles went on an 8-2 scoring run, highlighted by three straight kills and an ace by Roman and another two kills by seniors Ann Marie Nelson and Shannon Veale to give the Eagles the 21-16 lead.

Mercy closed within one point at 23-22, but a kill from Michelle Stublarec and an error by Mercy gave the Eagles the second set.

The third set was tightly contested and a back and forth affair with Mercy taking a 15-14 lead before finishing on a 10-2 run. In the fifth, Mercy pulled away early for the match victory.

Selma Vulic finished with 11 kills for Mercy.

In the Eagles second match, they dropped a 3-0 (11-25, 14-25, 16-25) match to Franklin Pierce. Buttery led the Eagles with 14 assists and Goodman had four blocks, a game-high.

The first 20 points of the first set were split, 10-10 as the Ravens went on a 5-0 run followed by a 5-1 run for the Eagles. During that stretch, Stublarec and Buttery each had a kills. However, the Ravens finished the set on a 15-1 run.

In set two, the Eagles took a brief 1-0 lead on an attack error by FPU, but the Ravens rattled off a 7-2 run and maintained the lead throughout. Four different players combined for five kills for the Eagles in the set. Goodman had two.

The Eagles had nine kills in the third set, with three coming from Goodman.

Ingrid Lindstrom led with 14 kills for the Ravens.

Up next, the Eagles take on Saint Rose on the road at 7 p.m. on September 10.
