Brostek Scores Late As Women's Soccer Ties New Haven In Opener

Pleasantville, N.Y. -  A penalty kick from senior Samantha Brostek in the 87th minute helped the Post University women's soccer team tie New Haven, 1-1 in its opening game of the 2019 season on Friday afternoon on the campus of Pace University.

With the Eagles down, 1-0, freshman Lydia Asamoah was dribbling through the box and was tripped on a one on one play with a defender, setting up Brostek's attempt, who put it past New Haven goalkeeper, Paige Davis. It was Brostek's second goal of her career.

New Haven got on the board in the 27th minute on a goal from Mackenzie Myers off a free kick from Sorcha Ni bhraonain.

Junior Tayleur Little was stellar in goal for the Eagles, stopping nine shots in her season debut, keeping the Eagles in the game against a tough New Haven team.

The Eagles had five shots on goal, with Hailey McGee leading the way with three shots. Sabrina Adamo had two.

Head coach Stephanie Demake was pleased with the result against a tough Northeast 10 team.

"It's a positive result for us against a solid NE 10 side. Every player was able to contribute in a way that allowed us to battle back and find a way to bring home a well-earned point. The resilience of this group was on display tonight and we are very proud of their performance," Demake said.

Up next, the Eagles take on Pace on September 8 in the final game of the Pace Invitational at 6:30 p.m.
