Game Recap: Sprint Football |

Eagles Strike Early, But Drop Sprint Football Opener To Chestnut Hill

Conshohocken, Pa. – Robert Sherry III scored an early touchdown, but the Post University Sprint Football team dropped its first game of the season to Chestnut Hill, 19-6 on Friday night.

The Eagles struck on their second possession of the game thanks to great field position caused by a fumbled punt snap by the Griffins causing a 28-yard loss and allowing the Eagles to start at Chestnut Hill's 20-yard line.

After the Eagles failed to gain any yards on its first three plays on the drive, quarterback Nick D'Elia found Akairyn Dumas for 12 yards on fourth and ten to keep the drive alive.

With new life, the D'Elia found Sherry III for 17 yards and the touchdown, giving Post the 6-0 lead with 8:52 remaining in the quarter.

On the ensuing possession, the Griffins would tie the game on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Michael Marino to Domoree Hill.

In the second quarter, the Eagles moved the ball 25 yards to Chestnut Hill's nine-yard line in large part to a 15-yard completion to Sherry III and a ten yard run by Jake Butler. However, the Eagles were stopped on fourth down and goal.

The Griffins took a 12-6 lead into the half on another touchdown pass from Marino.

Chestnut Hill extended its lead at the 8:21 mark in the third on a one-yard TD run.

The Eagles started moving the ball again in the fourth as D'Elia rushed for an 11-yard gain followed by a ten-yard completion to Sherry III after starting the possession on their own 15-yard line. Norell Jackson also caught two passes on the drive for 19 yards, but the Eagles were unable to convert on 4th and 1 with 5:57 remaining.

D'Elia went 18-for-41 for 134 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Sherry III finished with eight catches for 69 yards and a touchdown. Jackson had six catches for 40 yards. On defense, Hansley Dalembert led the Eagles with eight tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.

Marino was 11-for-22 for 115 yards and two TDs.

Up next, the Eagles take on Alderson Broaddus on the road at noon on September 21.
