Men’s Soccer Ties No. 8 SNHU Behind Two Goals From Alvaro Sanchez

Hooksett, N.H. – Junior Alvaro Sanchez scored two goals, including one in the 68th minute as the Post University men's soccer team tied No. 8 Southern New Hampshire, 2-2 on Wednesday evening.

Junior Sergio Diaz assisted on both of the goals as the Eagles now sit at 0-1-1 on the young season.

Sanchez scored early for the Eagles taking a pass from Diaz in the seventh minute to take the early 1-0 lead. It was the second straight game the Eagles scored before the ten-minute mark as Diaz scored first in Post's first game of the season against Adelphi.

The Penmen tied the game up at the 37th minute on Joao Brum's first goal of the game, tying the game at 1-1 going into halftime.

Brum struck again in the 60th minute, giving SNHU the 2-1 lead.

But Sanchez and Diaz linked up again in the 68th minute, and Sanchez put home the tying goal. It was the third multi-goal game for Sanchez in his career. It was the seventh multi-assist game for Diaz, who led the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in assists last season.

In double overtime, both goalkeepers came up big in the final moments as Post goalkeeper David Mollenthial made a diving save on a shot from Sami Gliguem in the 108th minute, followed by a diving stop from Brian Murray of SNHU (1-0-1) off the foot of sophomore Sergio Sanchez.

Mollenthial finished with six saves on the day. Murray had four.

The Eagles had eight shots on the day. Diaz led the team with three, all of them on goal. Sanchez scored on both of his.

Up next, the Eagles play their home opener, taking on Bentley at 3 p.m. at LaMoy Field on September 18.
