Orangeburg, N.Y. - Behind the bats of juniors Travious Ford (Greenville, N.C.) and Tyler Melko (Knoxville, Penn.) and the arm of sophomore Matt Goehrig (Clifton, N J.), the Post University baseball team clinched it's second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division title with a 6-0 win over Dominican in the final conference game of the season.
Goehrig pitched a seven-inning complete game shutout, striking out eight and giving up just five hits.
The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the second as Ford drew a walk with the bases loaded, making it a 1-0 game.
In the fourth, Melko got the first big hit of the game, a two-run double to score freshman Christian Aliberti (Eastchester, N.Y.) and sophomore Miguel De Los Santos (Clifton, N.J.) putting the Eagles up 3-0. In the fifth, De Los Santos returned the favor, driving in freshman Nicholas Gastin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) to put the Eagles up 4-0.Â
For insurance, Post tacked on two more runs in the seventh as a passed ball scored Gastin, followed by an RBI triple from Ford that scored sophomore Danny Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.).
The Eagles are 21-22 overall and finished 18-14 in the CACC, one game ahead of Dominican. As the top seed in the North, the Eagles will host Jefferson the No. 4 seed in the South Division at 2 p.m. at Municipal Stadium on May 4 in the first round of the CACC Tournament.
Top seeds will host first round games. Post University will host the remainder of the tournament on May 9-11.
