Tyler Kovalewich (Colonia, N.J.) pitched a complete game shutout and junior
Travious Ford (Greenville, N.C.) homered twice as part of a doubleheader sweep of Bloomfield in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup. Post won game one, 7-6 and game two, 1-0.
In game two, Ford provided the lone run of the game on a solo homer in the third inning as both teams mustered just two hits apiece thanks to Kovalewich and Bloomfield's Wilfrido Valenzuela.
In Kovalewich's seven inning complete game, he struck out seven while walking just one. In dramatic fashion he struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh for his third win of the season. He is 3-2 on the season.Â
Valenzuela struck out 11 and walked three for the Bears.
In game one, Ford hit his first homer of the day and senior
Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) had three hits and two runs in the 7-6 win.
After falling behind 2-0 after the first, Ford hit his first homer of the day, and fourth of the season, with a two run shot that also scored sophomore
Miguel De Los (Clifton, N.J.) Santos to tie the game, 2-2. De Los Santos walked to open the inning.Â
The offense didn't stop in the fourth as the Eagles (19-19, 15-11 CACC) scored three more runs. The first on an RBI single by freshman
Christian Aliberti (Eastchester, N.Y.) that scored sophomore
Danny Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.), who singled to begin the inning. Junior
Tyler Melko (Knoxville, Penn.) immediately followed with a two-run triple to score Aliberti and De Los Santos.
Bloomfield fought back with a run in the fourth on a homer by Darwin Tavarez and another two runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game, 5-5.
In the seventh, however, after back-to-back singles by Missiti and sophomore
Matt Goehrig (Clifton, N.J.) and a walk to freshman
Nicholas Gastin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Di Marzo hit a sacrifice fly to scored Missiti to give the Eagles the 6-5 lead.
For insurance, the Eagles scored one more in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Gastin that scored Missiti.for the second time.
Melko finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBI. Di Marzo went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.
The two teams meet again at Municipal Stadium on April 25, beginning at 1 p.m.
