Boca Raton, Fla. - The Eagles held a four run lead, but a big seventh inning by Adelphi proved difficult to overcome as the Post Unviersity baseball team lost 7-4.
Post had the bats going early, as the first batter of the game, junior
Evan Schaffner (Boynton Beach, Fla.) singled and was immediately driven in by classmate
Travious Ford (Greenville, N.C.), who tripled to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by junior
Tyler Melko (Knoxville, Penn.) drove in Ford to make it a 2-0 game.
The bats went silent the next four innings for the Eagles until a wild pitch by Kevin Glasser allowed Melko to score. Melko reached on a walk to open the inning. A sac fly from sophomore
Danny Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.) would give the Eagles its final run of the game as it plated senior
Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) who had reached on an error.
Junior
Arik Sypher (Chester, Conn.) cruised along for the first six innings and struck out four batters before Adelphi's bats woke up in the bottom of the seventh. A double by Michael Cattani drove in a run and was followed by a two-run double by Tim Feliz to make it a 4-3 game before Lawrence Cicileo had the big hit of the game, with a pinch hit three-run homer. Adelphi would tack on one more in the seven-run inning.
Post attempted a rally in the ninth, but left two men on base.
Sophomore
Mike Lisinicchia (Stamford, Conn.) had five strikeouts in two innings of relief for the Eagles. Daniel Taggart earned the win for Adelphi.
The Eagles (2-5) will take on American International College in a doubleheader on Thursday.
