Hackett’s Hat Trick Leads Men’s Hockey To Season Sweep Of Saint Michael’s

Box Score

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Eagles completed a regular season sweep (three wins) over the Purple Knights thanks to three straight goals to end the game by Tyler Hackett. The win also marked the Eagles third win in a row and fourth win in their last five games.

Saint Michael's started off the scoring for the second night in a row. This time Patrick Doherty scored an unassisted goal to give the Purple Knights a first period 1-0 lead.

Jake Raleigh answered with a game-tying goal for the second night in a row with some help from Matt Moreschi and Tyler Hackett

The Purple Knights managed to find the back of the net for a second time in the first period when Matt Egan scored to put his side up 2-1 heading into the second period.

Saint Michael's would go on to score another goal within the first five minutes of the second period to take a 3-1 lead over Post.

The Tyler Hackett show started at the 12 minute mark of the second period when he scored the first goal of his natural hat trick on a powerplay. Hackett was assisted by Evan Lugo and Lucas Smith, both picking up an assist for the second straight game.

Hackett then picked up a shorthanded goal in the second period to tie the game at 3-3

The third period saw one goal scored, Hackett's game winning, shorthanded goal. This was his eighth goal of the season to go along with six assists

"Veteran leadership led the way today. Being down by 2 in an opponents building is tough to overcome," Head Coach Peter Whitney said proudly. "Sticking to the game plan was key and that's what the guys did. Beating a consistent NE-10 Champion twice in their own barn speaks volumes of how hard the team works."

Brandon Brown played a perfect third period, stopping all 14 shots put on net. In total, Brown made 37 saves.

Hackett impacted the game in the faceoff circle as well, winning 16 of the 25 faceoffs he took.

Evan Lugo had a perfect night in the faceoff circle, winning all five he took.

Next Up - The Eagles will travel to Manchester, N.H. to take on Saint Anselm College on Tuesday, February 12th at 7:00 p.m.
