Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Fourth Quarter Rally Falls Just Short As Women's Basketball Falls To Goldey-Beacom, 55-50

Wilmington, De. - Despite a furious fourth quarter rally, the Post University women's basketball team dropped a 55-50 game to Goldey-Beacom in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

The loss snapped a two game winning streak for the Eagles who sit at 10-12 overall and 6-8 in the CACC. They are fourth in the North Division.

Down 49-35 heading into the fourth quarter, Post scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter, as sophomore Hannah Benac (Boerne, Texas) freshman Katelyn Canlas (Fort Washington, MD.) and senior Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) hit consecutive three-points to cut the deficit to 49-44. In fact, the Lightning didn't get on the board in the fourth until there was 5:32 left in the period as Alexis Harrison made a layup to give Goldey the 51-44 lead.

However, the Eagles answered with a 6-0 run of their own, including five of those points from Middleton to get Post within one at 51-50 with 2:28 remaining. It would be as close as the Eagles would get as Goldey scored the final four points of the game and held the Eagles scoreless the final 2:28 of the game.

Post held a slim 10-7 lead at the end of the first as junior Mia Crooms (Bronx, N.Y.) scored eight of the Eagles points, including the first six of the game.

The Eagles extended their lead to seven at 15-8, and 17-10, their largest lead of the game before the Lightning rattled off a 15-6 run over the final 6:02 of the period.

The first five minutes of the third quarter played as tight as the first two quarters of the game as the teams stayed within two possessions of each other with Middleton hitting a three at 4:59 to cut Goldey's lead to 34-32. In the final 3:42, the Lightning ran off a 15-3 run, including a layup from Vera Lauhaluoma - her only two points of the game - at the buzzer to take a 49-34 lead.

Middleton finished with 16 points to lead the Eagles, including going 4-for-5 from three-point land. Crooms finished with 15 points and junior Jessica Degree (Yonkers, N.Y.) tied for a game-high in rebounds with 14.

Harrison had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds for Goldey (12-11, 8-6 CACC).

Up next, the Eagles take on Georgian Court in a CACC home game at 1 p.m. on February 16.
