Melanie Polanco (Meriden, Conn.) scored a career-high 25 points and junior
Jessica Degree (Yonkers, N.Y.) had a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds as the Post University women's basketball team routed Georgian Court 86-70 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon.
It's the third win in four games for the Eagles who sit at 11-12 overall and 7-8 in the CACC, putting them in fourth place in the North Division.
Both teams played a tight first quarter, swapping leads six times before the Lions went on a 12-4 run over the last 4:42 to take a 25-19 lead after the first ten minutes.
In the second, the Eagles, led by Polanco took over after falling behind 30-21 at the 8:23 mark. Post rattled off a 24-8 run to take a 45-38 lead at halftime. Senior
Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Polanco each hit a three to start the run. Polanco scored nine points in the period, going 6-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Post extended its lead to 58-42 going on a 13-4 run to begin the third quarter. Polanco scored seven points in the opening run. She scored nine in the period and hit the lone three for the Eagles in the period.Â
In the fourth, the Eagles never let their lead slip below nine and led by as much as 19 (76-57) to close out the Lions. Middleton scored all ten of her points in the period from the free-throw line.
Middleton finished with 19 points, going 12-for-16 from the free-throw line. Six of Degree's ten rebounds were offensive. The Eagles outrebounded the Lions 47-26, including 21 offensive rebounds.
Carna Prokic led all Lions (10-13, 10-5 CACC) with 17 points.
