Eagles Lead Wire-To-Wire As Women's Basketball Defeats Bloomfield, 62-47

Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University women's basketball team scored the first five points, and freshman Sha'Raya Haines (Springfield, Mass.) scored 17 points as the Eagles led wire-to-wire in a 62-47 win over Bloomfield in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.

Post sits at 13-13 on the season and 9-9 in the CACC and are third in the North Division. They have also clinched a spot in the CACC tournament.

Junior Taylor Ceballos (Milford Conn.) scored the first three points of the game. The first two on a layup, followed by a free-throw. Haines would score the next bucket to make it a 5-0 game. After a three from Bloomfield's Caitlin Townes, the Eagles rattled off a 10-2 run to take a 15-5 lead. They'd finish the quarter leading 15-7. Haines scored six points in the quarter and senior Lauren Chambers (Lebanon, Pa.) hit a three during the quarter.

Haines and classmate Melanie Polanco (Meriden, Conn.) took over in the second quarter, scoring eight and seven points respectively. The Eagles extended its lead to 14 points multiple times during the quarter before taking a 36-23 lead into halftime. Haines didn't miss a shot, going 4-for-4 in the quarter.

After extending its lead to 51-37 heading into the fourth, the Bears cut the Eagles lead to 53-45 before the Eagles closed on a 9-2 run with Haines, senior Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Katelyn Canlas (Fort Washington, Md.) combined to go 7-for-7 from the free-throw line down the stretch.

Middleton and Ceballos each finished with 11 points. Polanco scored ten. The Eagles went 18-for-21 from the free-throw line.

Up next, the Eagles close out their regular season as they host Concordia at 1 p.m. in a CACC home game on March 2.
