Melanie Polanco (Meriden, Conn.) scored a team-high 18 points, but the Post University women's basketball team dropped a 72-60 match to Dominican on Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.
The loss snapped a two game winning streak as the Eagles now sit at 12-13 overall and 8-9 in the CACC, putting them in third place in the North Division.
Polanco scored the first six points - making her first three shots - for the Eagles as they jumped out to an early 6-5 lead to begin the game. The teams swapped leads three more times before the Chargers took a 19-16 lead into the second quarter. Senior
Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) hit a three during the quarter.
Dominican took a 30-25 lead at halftime and extended its lead to 32-25 early in the third, but the Eagles were able to rally take a 41-40 lead after a 16-8 run, capped by back-to-back threes from Polanco. The lead only lasted until the next possession as Dominican's Samantha McClutchy made a basket at 3:41 to give Dominican the lead at 42-41. The teams would tie one more time at 44-44 before Dominican's Korina Guerra hit a three to give the Chargers a 47-44 lead heading into the fourth.
Dominican pulled away in the fourth, leading by as much as 17.
Junior
Jessica DeGree (Yonkers, N.Y.) finished with eight points and 11 rebounds. Middleton finished with eight points and six rebounds and freshman
Sha'Raya Haines (Springfield, Ma.) had nine points off the bench for the Eagles.
Guerra led all scorers with 20 points. Jasmine Gee chipped in with 19 for Dominican (14-12, 12-5 CACC).
