Caldwell, N.J. – Junior Taylor Williams scored a career-high 36 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Post University women's basketball team used a dominant second half to beat Caldwell, 75-44 in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener on Saturday afternoon.
A tightly contested and low scoring first half had the Eagles up just 23-20, but Williams opened up the third quarter with a layup to extend Post's lead to five points. The Eagles would gradually extend its lead to as much as 12 points in the quarter after a layup from Williams that gave the Eagles a 45-33 lead with 49 seconds left. Post would lead 45-35 heading into the fourth.
Williams scored nine points as did sophomore Sha'Raya Haines in the quarter.
In the fourth, the Eagles (5-2, 1-0 CACC) exploded, outscoring the Cougars (1-7, 1-2 CACC), 30-9, finishing on a 23-4 run. Williams went 6-for-9 from the field in the quarter and hit all four of her three-point attempts for 16 points as the Eagles shot 12-for-18 from the field as a team.
The first half saw 11 lead changes before the Eagles were able to break the game open in the second half.
Post outrebounded Caldwell 12-4 in the quarter, and held Caldwell to 26.7 percent shooting at 4-for-15.
The Eagles converted 14 Caldwell turnovers into 20 points while scoring 18 second chance points on 26 offensive rebounds. Freshman Tai Pagan grabbed seven of her 12 rebounds on the offensive end. Haines finished with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Rebecca Morrison was the lone Caldwell player to score in double figures as she scored ten points.
It's the Eagles second win in their last three games against Caldwell.
Post will host Pace on December 13 at 5:30 p.m. in a non-conference match in its next game.
