Waterbury, Conn. – Reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week, junior Taylor Williams scored 36 points for the second consecutive game, including nine in the decisive fourth quarter as the Post University women's basketball team defeated Pace, 82-70 on Friday evening at the Drubner Center.
Sophomore Sha'Raya Haines added 20 points and six rebounds and freshman Tai Pagan added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles who have won two straight games.
The Eagles used a 13-0 run to close out the game. With Pace up 70-69, Pagan grabbed an offensive rebound on a miss from Katelyn Andres and laid it in to start the run. On the ensuing possession for Pace, Haines jumped the passing lane on a pass from Fiona Mullen and took it the rest of the way for the bucket to put the Eagles up, 73-70.
On the next Eagles possession, Williams broke down her defender and buried the long two, causing the Drubner Center to erupt and forcing Pace to call a timeout. Pace would turn it over on the next possession, and Williams hit a three with 1:13 left to help seal the game for the Eagles.
Pace took a 21-17 after the first quarter after jumping out to a 13-5 lead, their biggest of the game, before Post rallied. Williams had 11 points in the quarter on 5-for-8 shooting.
The Eagles took their first lead of the game at the 6:39 mark of the second quarter on a jumper from Williams to make it a 28-26 game. They would lead by as much as three in the quarter at 31-28, but Pace closed out the quarter with a 9-4 run to take a 45-40 lead at the break.
Post jumped out to a 12-4 run to begin the third, including a three from junior Hannah Benac and Williams to make it a 52-49 lead for the Eagles at 6:16. The teams swapped leads three more times in the quarter. With Pace up 63-60, Haines hit a three to tie the game with 21 seconds remaining in the quarter.
The teams exchanged leads ten times.
Post was dominant on the boards, grabbing 37 rebounds to just 22 for Pace. The 17 offensive rebounds for the Eagles led to 22 second chance points. The Eagles shot 50 percent from the field (32-for-64).
Lauren Schetter led all Pace players in scoring and rebounds, scoring 24 points and grabbing eight boards.
The Eagles (6-2, 1-0 CACC) have now won three straight against Pace (8-3, 3-1 NE10), including a 71-67 victory last season.
