Williams, Haines Catch Fire In Women’s Basketball Win Over Bloomfield

Waterbury, Conn. – Junior Taylor Williams and sophomore Sha'Raya Haines combined to shoot 20-for-27 from the field as the Post University women's basketball team took down Bloomfield in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) home opener, 86-53 on Wednesday night.

Williams scored 30 points, including 6-for-7 shooting from three and Haines finished with 25 points on 4-for-4 from three to help the Eagles extend their winning streak to three games and remain undefeated in the CACC. Post is now 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the CACC.

Williams was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field in the first quarter, going for 15 points, including two three-pointers. The Eagles led by as much as nine points at 23-14 in the quarter. As a team they were 4-for-6 from three, as Haines and junior Hannah Benac also hit threes in the quarter as the Eagles were up 24-18 after the first ten minutes.

Post blew the doors open in the second quarter behind ten points apiece from Williams as the Eagles jumped out to a 17-6 run over the first 5:31 of the quarter. Williams hit two threes during the decisive run. They'd lead 52-30 at the half, after shooting 8-for-10 (80 percent) from three.

The Eagles were able to increase their lead to as much as 34 points in the second half, and the Bears never got any closer than 25 points in the second half. Freshman Kiera Fernandes went 3-for-3 from three in the fourth quarter and scored all 11 of her points in the frame.

Williams also finished with six rebounds and two blocks, while Haines added eight rebounds and four assists. Freshman Tai Pagan had five points had nine rebounds and Benac finished with ten points and six rebounds.

The Eagles shot a staggering 14-for-20 (70 percent) from three for the game.

DaShanique Ruffin led all Bears (3-8, 2-1 CACC) with 16 points.

Up next, the Eagles take on Concordia on the road on December 21 at 1 p.m. in their final game in 2019.
