Williams And Haines Each Score 22, But Women’s Basketball Falls To Mercy

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.  – Junior Taylor Williams and sophomore Sha'Raya Haines each scored 22 points, but the Post University women's basketball team snapped a four game winning streak in a 72-69 to Mercy on Wednesday evening.

Post took a 20-17 lead after the first quarter as Haines and Williams combined for 15 points for the Eagles. Haines scored ten, including a layup at the buzzer to give the Eagles the three-point edge.

The Eagles took their biggest lead of the half at the 5:17 mark in the second on a jump shot from Williams that made it a 29-23 game.

However, a 13-2 run from Mercy, capped by a three from Katie Wall gave the Mavericks a 36-31 lead. They'd go into the break with a 36-33 lead.

Post regained the lead in the third on back-to-back layups from Williams and sophomore Jaeonna Sutton to take a 37-36 lead. After the teams swapped leads one more time, Post would take a 51-44 lead at the 2:35 mark after a 12-2 run, which saw Haines score six and Williams, five. They would take a 53-48 lead going into the final quarter.

In the fourth, the teams swapped lead nine time, but the Mavericks went on a 7-0 run to close out the game for the win.

The Eagles finished with 16 points off of its 15 offensive rebounds. Freshman Tai Pagan finished with our points, ten rebounds and three blocks.

The Eagles play at Caldwell at 1 p.m. to open up its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference season on December 7.
