Shelton, Conn. – The Post University women's ice hockey team continues to roll, as it won a third straight game, a 5-0 victory over Neumann on Tuesday afternoon behind two goals from freshman Sadie Storm.
It is also the third straight shutout for the Eagles who scored four goals in the final ten minutes of the game.
After a scoreless first 38 minutes of the game, the Eagles broke through at the 18:25 mark of the second period on a power play goal from freshman Storm as she took a pass from junior Paige Dundas and hit a wrist shot over the shoulder of goalie Alexa Lamplugh to make it a 1-0 game before the second intermission.
Post would then score four goals from the 10:59 mark on in the third as Mia Landry scored her first goal of the season on a slap shot off a pass from freshman Jenna Abeyta to make it a 2-0 game.
At the 15:57 mark, senior Kendall Fitzgerald scored her fourth goal of the season, taking a centering pass in front of the net from freshman Catherine Proulx and stuffing the puck past Lamplugh to make it a 3-0 game.
Storm's second goal was in impressive fashion, ripping a shot between center ice and the blue line past Lamplugh for a 4-0 Post lead. It was Storm's sixth goal of the season and her second two goal game of the season.
Freshman Emily Racco would tack on her first goal of her career at the 19:41 mark on a wrist shot from the slot off a pass from Dundas, who finished with two assists on the day.
Senior Jenna Baumgartner recorded her second straight shutout, stopping all 33 shots she faced on the day.
After the Thanksgiving break, the Eagles will host Sacred Heart at 2 p.m. at The Rinks at Shelton.
Three Eagles Honored For Weekly NEWHA Awards
Abeyta, Baumgartner and sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn Daly were all honored in the weekly New England Women's Hockey Alliance Awards announced on Tuesday.
Baumgartner and Daly were named Co-Defensive Players of the Week with their back-to-back 3-0 shutouts of Wilkes on November 23 and 24. Baumgartner stopped 22 shots on the 23rd while Daly stopped 32 the next day.
For the second time this year, Abeyta was honored as the NEWHA Rookie of the Week, as she had five points during the weekend wins over Wilkes including the game-winner on Sunday. She finished with a +3 rating.
