Waterbury, Conn. – Junior Taylor Williams scored 21 points – 16 in the second half – as the Post University women's basketball led wire-to-wire in a 70-53 win against American International College (AIC) on Wednesday evening.
It was the second straight win for the Eagles, who now sit at 2-1 on the season.
Sophomore Katelyn Andres added 14 points, but made her mark early in the first quarter, scoring ten straight points, extending the Eagles lead from 4-2 to 14-7 at the time. She went 4-for-5 from the field in the quarter. The Eagles ended the quarter with a 17-12 lead.
Post extended its lead to 33-23, helped by an 8-0 run early in the quarter. With the Eagles up, 19-16, Andres started with a jumper followed by back to back threes from junior Angelica Flores and Williams to give them a 27-16 lead.
The Eagles led by as much as 17 points at 43-26 in the third, thanks to a 10-3 run to start the quarter as five different players scored a bucket for Post. The Yellow Jackets cut the Eagles lead to 47-42 after a 16-4 run of their own, as Kayla Robinson scored six points in the run for AIC.
Post would get their lead back up to eight at 52-44 by the end of the third after a layup from senior Taylor Ceballos with 19 seconds left.
The Eagles were able to put the game away in the fourth, allowing just nine points to AIC. The Eagles led by as much as 21 in the quarter. Williams scored seven points in the quarter and grabbed four rebounds.
Post grabbed 17 offensive rebounds, resulting in 19 second chance points. Led by Andres, the Eagles scored 24 points off the bench to just 15 for AIC.
Sophomore Sha'Raya Haines scored 11 points and had seven rebounds.
Rashana Siders led all AIC players with ten points.
