Waterbury, Conn. – Senior Shannon Veale had a career-high 22 kills in her final game of her career and freshman Keyah Sinclair had six blocks as the Post University women's volleyball team won a highly competitive four set match against Concordia, 3-1 (25-23, 25-27, 27-25, 25-23) on Wednesday evening in the Eagles last game of the season.
The Eagles closed out the season winning four of their last five matches.
After falling behind 9-6 in set one, the Eagles went on a 9-3 run to take a 15-12 lead, thanks in large part to kills from senior Michelle Stublarec, Sinclair and freshman Jayda Roman. The Clippers answered with a 7-2 run of their own to take a 19-17. The Eagles scored five of the next six points, the last on a kill from Shannon Veale to take a 22-20 lead. But the Eagles scored three of the last five on including a kill from Veale and an ace from junior Elizabeth McGrath.
Post fell behind 19-14 in set two before scoring six straight points to take a 20-19 lead. During that stretch, Veale had five consecutive kills. Concordia came back to take a 24-21 lead before the Eagles fought off set point to have an opportunity at the set themselves, taking a 25-24 lead on a kill from Roman. However, the Clippers scored three straight points, including kills from Tatienne Tugade-Sua and Lydimar Soto to take the set.
In set three, Post fell behind 9-4 before rallying to tie the game, 10-10 on kills from Roman and classmate Aniya Goodman to go with a block from Veale and Sinclair. No one would lead by more than two points the rest of the way before the Eagles closed out with kills from Goodman and Veale to win the set, 27-25. Roman had seven kills in the set. Sinclair had two blocks and a kill during the set.
Set four saw yet another back and forth battle, with the teams exchanging leads six times. Post never led the set by more than two points. With the game tied at 22-22, Sinclair was a part of back-to-back blocks to take a 24-22 lead. After the Clippers answered with a point, Stublarec closed out the match for the win with a kill.
Roman finished with 14 kills and 18 digs. Veale added 11 digs to go with her 22 kills. Buttery had 19 digs. McGrath finished with her second highest assist total of the season with 47.
The Eagles finished 6-24 on the season, and 6-13 in the CACC.
