Shelton, Conn. – Freshman Jenna Abeyta scored a goal in the third period to break a tie as the Post University women's hockey team won its first game of the season, 3-2 over St. Michael's in a New England Women's Hockey Alliance game on Saturday afternoon.
It was Abeyta's second goal of the season. With the game tied at 2-2 in the third, Abeyta took the puck, raced down the boards past Purple Knights defenders and put a wrist shot past goalkeeper Vika Simons to give the Eagles its first lead of the game at 12:21. Freshman Sadie Storm answered at the 14:22 mark with her first career goal, taking a pass from Paige Dundas to tie the game at 1-1 in the first.
After the Purple Knights scored at 5:45 in the second, the Eagles answered again, as freshman Catherine Proulx scored in her second straight game, deking a defender and putting the puck past Simons to tie the game at 2-2.
The Eagles outshot the Purple Knights, 36-30 with Abeyta leading the way with ten shots.
