Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Diaz Scores Two, Assists On Two As No. 24 Men’s Soccer Beats New Haven

West Haven, Conn. – Junior Sergio Diaz scored two goals and assisted on two more as the No. 24 nationally ranked Post University men's soccer team topped New Haven, 5-2 in a non-conference match on Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles haven't lost in their last 11 games. They are 7-1-3 overall and 3-0-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

After falling behind 1-0 in the tenth minute, the Eagles put their first goal on the board soon after as sophomore Phillimon Bedard-Khalid took a pass from Diaz and put it past goalkeeper Stefano Lorusso to make it a 1-1 game. It was Bedard-Khalid's second goal of the season.

Post took its first lead early in the second half, this time with Bedard-Khalid assisting on the play, as junior Keshane Bedward scored his first goal of the season, putting Post up 2-1 in the 48th minute.

The Chargers tied it in the 52nd minute, but just over a minute later, Diaz scored his ninth goal of the season, taking a pass from Bedward to make it a 3-2 game in the 53rd minute.

In the 86th minute, junior Alvaro Sanchez scored his eighth goal of the season, giving the Eagles a little bit of insurance, on a pass from Diaz. It was the 11th assist on the year for Diaz, most in the CACC.

Post would tack on one more on the end, as Diaz scored his tenth goal of the season off a pass from freshman Fernando Duque in the final minute.

It's the third straight win for the Eagles over New Haven.

Up next, Post takes on Georgian Court on the road in a CACC match at 2:30 on October 19

On Tuesday, the Eagles cracked the Division II United Soccer Coaches Poll national rankings as they are now 24th in the country. They remained at No. 4 in the East Region.

"It is great to be nationally ranked and highly acclaimed in the region," coach Ted Haley said. "But our success also makes us a target every match. The guys dealt with that pressure again tonight playing away at a strong NE-10 opponent who just beat historical powerhouse SCSU 2-0. We were not perfect but we adapted to the match and took our chances in a strong second half. We are now focused on three great days of training and our trip to Georgian Court. It is a massive match for us as they are the only team to beat No. 2 in the East Mercy this year so it is an opportunity that we cannot overlook!"

Below are the latest national rankings. Records are as of October 14.
